I want to become a Sister or Guard…

I am Sister Nora Torious 13, the former Mistress of Novices of the Sisters of San Diego, and was in charge of both the new and junior members of the Order.

First let me tell you that we are looking for dedicated candidates to join our order. Whether you are gay, straight, female, male, or Transgender. It is so very rewarding to be in service of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, as we have many facets to our work and many focuses to attend too in our Mission. Our Mission is simple, “the promulgation of universal joy and the expiation of stigmatic guilt”.

With that said, our mission is many things from handing out condoms and supporting safer sex practices, raising funds for charities, helping other charities with their work, but most important is the time we spend out in our community, as Sisters and Guards of the Asylum of the Tortured Heart in San Diego. Please know not everyone is the right fit for the Sisters, but we give everyone a good chance to join. It takes at a minimum of 1 year and 3 months to become a fully professed Nun, or a minimum of 1 year for fully professed Guard, under the direction of Sponsors who will guide and teach you, with restrictions to dress and abilities until such time a person becomes a fully professed Nun or Guard by vote of the Order. There is a significant cost and time needed to be a Sister or Guard, to include outfits, makeup and accessories, I feel you should be able to commit to 2 meetings a month and at least 2 to 3 events or outings a month mostly evening and weekends. To give you and idea of what is involved beyond the fun out and about as Sisters and Guards, you see for every outing, we spend a lot more time planning or getting ready, and to be honest about a third of people who ask to join drop out after a while, deciding this is not for them, and even more rarely we decide a person is not a good fit.

So now you have a better picture of what joining the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence requires, and I hope you are still very committed to joining us. the first step is to come to our General Meeting, held at the LGBT Center every 4th Tuesday of the Month. Please bring a letter asking to join as a Sister or Guard, with some info about you and why, and upon receipt of this letter you will officially be and Aspirant for the Order, and will spend the following 3 months hanging out with us, only in a black shirt or dress, no Sister makeup. The 3 months as Aspirant is a time for you to see and learn about us and decide if this is really for you, and for us to get to know you as well. After this 3 month period you will be eligible for vote to the next stage as Postulant, where you will start to wear a limited amount of makeup and official garments of the order, there is a lot more after that, but lets just focus on Aspirant for now.

Also I encourage you to research all you can about the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, we have 33 years of history and much is on the controversial side. See, we are not the most politically correct Group! But we have done great work and earned a lot of respect.
